Christchurch: Bangladesh’s cricket workforce escaped unscathed after a shooting at a mosque in central Christchurch, an official told AFP on Friday.
Bangladesh Cricket Board spokesman Jalal Yunus mentioned most of the team were being bussed to the mosque and have been about to go inside of when the incident happened.
“They are risk-free. But they are mentally shocked. We have questioned the staff to keep confined in the resort,” he informed AFP.
Player Tamim Iqbal tweeted that it was a “frightening experience” and that there have been “active shooters”.
“Entire staff acquired saved from active shooters!!!” tweeted Tamim Iqbal. “Frightening practical experience and please retain us in your prayers.” Nearby media reported there were many casualties at one particular mosque and that an additional had been evacuated. (AFP)
